Mondo's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Soft Vinyl Figure Line Adds Two More Fan-Favorite Characters

Michelangelo and Mondo Gecko are on sale now.

Comments

When Mondo announced that it was launching its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles soft vinyl figures line with Leonardo and Donatello, the next two to be released seemed obvious. However, it turns out that's not entirely the case. While Michelangelo will be released with the second wave, and you can see many photos of him below, Raphael isn't debuting just yet.

Instead, Michelangelo will be released alongside Mondo Gecko, the fan-favorite mutant with a motorized skateboard. Given Mondo is releasing the figure, adding the skateboarding Gecko seems like a natural fit.

Like Leonardo and Donatello, these soft vinyl figures are unlike anything else being released in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles space, with unique designs reminiscent of the original 1980s action figures, but with Japanese sofubi styling to make them stand out.

"Sofubi styling lends itself to such an interesting feel and aesthetic, and while the articulation and such are more straightforward, it's all about the quirkiness, the craziness, and the fun that the sculpt conveys," Mondo's senior creative director for collectibles and design Hector Arce previously said. "I think that fits in perfectly with the original line of TMNT figures from the '80s, those toys were not afraid to have fun and get silly while still looking cool."

Unlike the original figures, these soft vinyl collectibles stand eight inches tall and feature highly detailed accessories. As you can see below, for Michelangelo, that means he comes with his nunchucks, which he can hold in a holster on his belt. This particular figure was designed and sculpted by Arce and Alex Brewer.

Then there's Mondo Gecko, which is easily the most-detailed figure in this line yet. Not only does he look like an exaggerated version of the animated character from the TV series, but his skateboard accessory is a practically perfect extra. Mondo was designed by James Groman and sculpted by Brandon Gash. Take a look at photos of Mondo and his skateboard below.

Surely, a Raphael is on the way--perhaps we'll even learn more about him at San Diego Comic-Con, if not before then. In the meantime, Mondo is expanding its soft vinyl figure line beyond the Ninja Turtles as well, with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire figures available now. You can get more details on the Michelangelo and Mondo Gecko figures over at Mondo's blog.
